Eisenhower: throwin' bows from fifty years ago

Almost 50 years ago to the day, President Eisenhower gave this address in his farewell to the nation:



That day, Eisenhower coined the phrase 'Military Industrial Complex'. Now we've all heard this term (most likely a lot these days), but lets break it down a bit:



Fast forwarding to the present:



"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron."

What future?

I started this blog to be an inspiration to myself and hopefully to others because it seems there is always something trying to rob us of our dreams, whether it be ourselves or just hateful people. However, this video is not inspiring. Now you can argue about the bailout or if Senator Sanders has his percentages correct, but you would indeed be missing the point. If you've been alive long enough to work in a professional field, if you've paid attention to any amount of news in the past 5-10 years, if you've seen an increase in the amount if depressed people you know, if you've seen blatant lies be touted as truth in an unprecedented fashion, if you've seen progress dissolve, if you've been an American citizen for a decent amount of time, you know there is truth in what this man says because no doubt, you've at least felt it. Do with this information as you will, I just figured it deserved a mention before this speech gets lost in the never ending youtube clips of cats doing stuff...

Hope for the future, Obama style

I'm not what you would call a traditionally patriotic person. In my life I have found there is a whole side of things that are never truly brought to light, but behind closed doors are whispered, understood, and sometimes demonized. So often it seems that people in positions of power actively cure the symptoms and then boldly look at the sickness and don't even try to diagnose it. They instead pretend it is not there and offer solutions to continue and fix the ever reoccurring symptoms. That unwillingness to even acknowledge the unadulterated truth has bred a good deal of strong emotion in my heart over time and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
That being said, Obama's speech last week at the Democratic National Convention really gave me hope that we can have a person lead this country that can finally begin treatment on such a long standing problem, the lack of true unity amongst us all. With that, get that mutha @#$%*& inspiration &*%#$@$!

Where have all the great Orators gone to?

Unless you've been living under a rock or your not a native of the united states, its hard to miss the match of the century for the democratic nomination. A lot of it is just political nonsense that I think has to happen in this country in order for people to feel that the candidates are valid but every now and again, great things happen and that for me was March 18th of this year. If you have not heard this speech, please take some time to listen and above all else, get that inspiration
